Little Weighton Water Tower Demolition

Hi everyone,

So, you may have noticed , if you've been up that way, that the water tower is now gone. After exactly three weeks, as planned, Friday saw the final piece of steelwork removed from the tower and lifted down to ground level. 100% the steelwork has been removed from site for recyling and all that remains is for fence panals to be reinstalled, and our compound in the adjacent field to be returned to its original state.

We apologise for any incoveinience we may have caused during this time and would like to thank the good people of both Little Weighton and Rowley for their patience and understanding.

So, there's been a fair amount of progress on site at the water tower since our last update. Firstly, all the sections previously cut away from the tower and stored within, have now been lifted to ground level and removed from site for recycling.  Focus then turned back to the continued demolition of the tank and the removal of the remaining external walls using the gas axe. These were swiftly removed and have been lifted to ground level, leaving operatives only the base of the water tank, left on top of the tower. The tank base, has been removed today [Monday], in 2 sections weighing roughly 2 tonnes each. This leaves only the supporting legs and service pipework, which is scheduled to be removed through this week.

Hi everyone

  I just wanted to show you all the progress we're making on site with the tower demolition. We have currently removed appoximatly 2\3 of the water tank at the top of the tower, and after removing all these materials from site for recycling in the coming days, will make headway into the base of the tank and the remaining external walls. The legs will then follow and all pipework will be infilled over the coming weeks.

I've been back on site catching up with the progress of works so far...

Just a quick update to keep you all informed of progress on site. We really are cracking on with the demolition of the water tower, as you'll see from the photos. Having made the first cut on Tuesday, we have continued to break down the 'tank' portion of the tower, into liftable size sections for the crane. These sections are being stored within the tower itself until early next week, when they will be removed from site for recycling.

Hi Everyone

Following the recent bad weather, we have now carried out compaction tests on the stone crane pad, and I am happy to report positive results. This has allowed us to bring the crane to site and begin the demolition of the water tower. Operatives will be lifted in a crane basket and begin by removing sections of the tank using a gas axe. The sections will initially be lowered  into the tank itself whilst removing each layer, and subsiquently will be lowered from the tower into skip wagons and removed from site.

Hi Everybody

Just a quick update to let you know what weve been doing this week at the water tower.

Due to radio waves being emitted from the telephone mast adjacent to the water tower, and following consoltations with the crane suppliers, a decision had been made to locate the crane where it is currently sited. However, upon in inspection of the current site, it was felt that a larger crane was needed to lift the greater distance. We have therefore extended the crane pad a further 1.5m to accomodate the bigger crane.

We have also installed a temporary footway diversion to create a safer distance for passing pedestrians, as you will see should you pass the tower.

I've also been asked to pose a question to the good people of Little Weighton,regarding the tower and its history. So here goes, to the nearest half tonne, how much do you think the tower weighs? I'll let you know at the end of the job....

Hi everyone,

Despite the atrocious weather of late, site activities have continued. so far this week, we have have finished installing the stone pad for the crane. This will now be compaction tested for strength to ensure its suitability for siting the crane.

We have also put up temporary protection towers for the two kiosks inside the site and installed a wireless CCTV unit.

Hi Everyone

Welcome to the community portal for Little Weighton.

Stonbury have taken control of the site at Little Weighton this week, and have begun by creating a small compound in the adjacent field. Stone has been laid to create a hardstanding for welfare facilities and storage to sit on, as well as forming a car parking area for site staff. A road gate has been installed at the track entrance and fencing has been erected to secure the area.

Meanwhile, site operatives have started by digging out an area measuring 7m x 7m, and are creating a further, more compacted area of stone for the heavy plant to sit on during the work.
